Everyone has had to negotiate at some point in their lives, whether it's buying a new car, discussing beginning salaries, or determining where to eat dinner. Regardless of the topic at hand, here are four helpful tips to have an effective negotiation outcome that parallel the different stages of the discussion. These tips include doing background homework to understand the interests and positions of the other side relative to your own, not negotiating against yourself by giving in too early, using different negotiation "currency" to break stalemates, and always letting someone walk away.
